Our love has left
its nocturnal sanctuary
for the more open spaces
of morning light,
where it could walk
unhurried on the sidewalks
of the inner city
and exchange exuberance
for the solitude
of an unoccupied park bench
and follow the pattern
of summer
through a parallel road
of uncertain days
and beyond our grasp
of our selves
claim the sounds thence,
as if life
were a song.
