Title: This will be a sign to you
A sign points to something other than itself. We need not linger on a sign, but instead set our eyes to the instruction or direction it gives. No road sign has more grandeur than the ultimate destination it points to, nor can it fully disclose the imagery of a reality ahead of us.
The promise was God among us; the sign was the ordinary birth of a child, although in a much humbler surrounding: on a feeding trough, in a stable. And who could view this symbol but those who would appreciate beyond the unimpressive to the salvation of a nation and a people.
