The Gospel

Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the GOSPEL which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

[Paul, writing to Christians @ Corinth, 1 Cor. 15:1-4]

Job 23:13

Title:  Whatever he pleases

It is practically wise that God, with his limitless power, be able to control the affairs of nature and history because he knows the whole story, we don’t.

Isn’t it just sensible for someone who knows all things to run the entire show?

Sovereignty is important when there are as many opinions as there are people.  God does whatever pleases him for the good of the redeemed, sometimes by way of discipline, and sometimes through circumstances difficult to make sense of, but always laden with grace sufficient for every situation in life.

Job 38:4

Title:  Where were you?

We speculate on things we don’t understand, we theorize, we formulate equations and draw graphs and charts; and sure enough we grow vain in our own conceit.

Man was created to obey God, not to force answers out of him, for obedience brings pure joy and initiates true worship.  God has revealed to us every knowledge and wisdom that exalts his Son, that through him our iniquities might be taken away.

We must be satisfied with what we understand and respond to them in obedience to the God who knows what we don’t.

To question God is tantamount to giving him advice.  This must not be so for at the end of the matter we would be proven ignorant and we would have to cover our mouths with our hands.

Note:  Covering of mouth is acknowledgment of defeat

Daniel 3:18

Title:  But even if he does not

Who do we think we are?

God doesn’t owe us a single favor.  On the contrary we are so deeply indebted to him that eternity would not suffice serving him.

We may give and offer our bodies as living sacrifices for the sake of the gospel, even to the point of laying down our very lives, but that is just what is expected from us.

My God’s thoughts are greater and higher than mine.  He doesn’t make available to me explanations for every event in my life; what he gives me is the grace to serve him in all circumstances.

If I can serve him only in favorable situations, I would cease to be a Christian and He ceases to be God.

John 18:40

Title: Give us Barabbas!

If the Lord Jesus is not King over our lives, we would be in a state of perpetual rebellion against his reign. Even our worship would be one scandalous affair of selfish intentions and heartless supplications.

We are not given a choice over the sovereignty of the Lord Jesus: we either submit to it or receive in our hands the blood for the murder of the One who was born to testify to the truth.
