The Gospel

Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the GOSPEL which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

[Paul, writing to Christians @ Corinth, 1 Cor. 15:1-4]

Luke 2:20

Title:  Glorifying and praising God

Title:  Glorifying and praising God

No one who has found God, or has been directed to his Son, should fail to worship him and to speak in praise of his amazing grace.

The birth of the Lord Jesus was the fulfillment of the promise of preservation of God’s people in the midst of warnings of judgment against those who have rejected the gentle call to repentance and salvation.

If for no other reason but his mercy, we must rejoice, glorify and praise God.

Luke 2:13

Title:  Praising God

The birth of the Lord Jesus was a celebration of worship in heaven and on earth.

The Son of God’s love was born a King, of royal heritage on both side of the bloodline, and whose rule will never be tainted by human frailty, or error in judgment, or injustice.

When the darkness of the shadow of death was most palpable there shone a light from heaven, the magnitude of which revealed the thoughts of men’s hearts and marked, from grace to grace, the narrow path to salvation and peace and service without fear, through the forgiveness of sins by God’s tender mercy.

Job 38:2

Title:  Who is this?

We are not privy and have no capacity to all the facts of life that even an explanation from God for all the ills and pain and suffering buffeting a Christian will only pose more mystery than it would bring to light.

The sovereign God does not owe us an explanation and we are unworthy to ask him for one, albeit we can cry out to him in our deepest moment of despair, and we should, for He has undergone a most bitter suffering and the greatest loss in giving his Son to die for our sins.

While answers to our questions may not be available to us now, there is more than enough reason to worship the Lord.  And we must.

Psalm 95:6

Title:  Worship

Worship is for God’s entertainment, and every person in the congregation is a performer.

The church meets in a place of worship every first day of the week to perform for God, never to just comfortably sit back as if watching the greatest show on earth, never to merely enjoy a performance of songs and talks delivered in theological jargon, for our enjoyment is in the presence of the Lord and not on what’s transpiring onstage.

A believer also is there to reflect the Lord’s glory, and he cannot hope to be lost in the number of the flock, unnoticed from the opening prayer to the closing hymn because God sees only one soul in that auditorium: his!

Genesis 2:7

Title:  The Lord God formed the man

The first time Adam opened his eyes, the first countenance he saw was that of God’s, and he worshipped him.

To worship God is to seek his face.  On a greater scale it involves taking care of the garden/creation, obeying God’s laws, honoring marriage and nurturing the family, meeting with God and enjoying his presence from day to day.

In worship we reflect God’s image, so only those who are worthy, made worthy by the death of the Lamb of God are called before his presence to look at his face as Adam did.

Genesis 1:27

Title: In the image of God

Life is never an empty start, and it is not true that it is a journey in search of meaning and purpose.

Life commences possessing all the possibilities and capacity for holiness, which is humanity’s defining virtue in recognition of his preeminence over all created beings.

From birth to the moment of his last conscious breath, man is worshipping God. His tenure above ground is one deliberate act of adoration, whether he acknowledges it or not, and for which he will be subject to judgment at the end of time.

John 4:28

Title: Leaving her water jar

When confronted with the truth in the presence of God, the only valid course of action would be away from even the fundamental necessities of physical subsistence and into a state of spiritual accountability, for the joy of being exposed for sin and yet not condemned, but instead led to the fountain of living, cleansing water.

John 4:24

Title: In spirit and in truth

Since God demands worship in spirit and in truth, it logically follows that he will reveal himself also in spirit and in truth, and only to those who worship him in the same manner.

Knowledge of who God is and the understanding of his Word come to us in response to the honesty and spirit of our worship, and through the same channel by which we reverence him who alone is the truth.

Malachi 3:9

Title: The whole nation of you

No man is an island, even in worship.

God demands worship from everyone and everything under his dominion, and no one is outside his influence and control.

The potency and bearing of individual adoration reach their apex in national reverence in truth and spirit, so the blessings and the corrections flow from the national conscience to the individual soul.

John 2:16

Title: To those who sold doves

Even in his righteous indignation the Lord Jesus didn’t want anyone to suffer loss. Had he released the doves, it would have been difficult to recover the birds.

The Lord is exceedingly gracious, but worship must never be a venue to advance any business interest or serve as a platform to market merchandise or a social cause.

Worship is a stage, and the whole congregation performs for the pleasure of God.

We don’t worship Sunday after Sunday to be blessed.

We worship because we have already been blessed.
